About our fabrics

oorvii is committed to supporting the age-old craft and supporting the artisans who make it. oorvii believes in showing the value of traditional craftsmanship and the cultural heritage it represents. Each garment represents timelessness, tradition & a commitment to the rich history. All the fabrics in our creations are handmade, which means there may be irregularities in the weave, dye, print, etc due to the handcrafted nature of the textiles. These aren't flaws but more what makes each garment unique, adding to the fabric's natural beauty. Handwoven cotton fabrics are made by artisans using a handloom, and not by a machine. They are environment friendly, made without the use of electricity.

Handwoven fabrics are by definition limited edition, being hand-crafted. So the garments we make are truly unique in its own way and the likeliness of the same garment being repeated is very low. We may have similar fabrics in the future, but they will never be quite the same because different weavers, different dyes, different creators, and conditions.

Our curated collection features a diverse array of fabrics including Ikat, Jamdhani, Linen, Kala Cotton and Ajrakh. Each textile is unique in its craftsmanship and sustainable practices.

Ikat Fabric

Ikat is a traditional weaving technique where the yarn is dyed before being woven to create intricate patterns. This process involves tying and dyeing the yarn in specific patterns before weaving, resulting in blurred edges and a distinctively hazy design. Originating from various regions across the world such as Indonesia, India, and Japan, Ikat fabrics are renowned for their vibrant colors and unique patterns. Each piece of Ikat fabric tells a story of meticulous craftsmanship and cultural heritage, making it a timeless addition to any wardrobe.

Jamdhani Fabric

Jamdhani, also known as Dhakai Jamdani, is a fine muslin fabric characterized by its delicate motifs woven directly into the fabric. Originating from Bangladesh, this intricate weaving technique involves hand-loom weaving using a supplementary weft technique. Skilled artisans meticulously weave intricate designs, often inspired by nature and mythology, into the fabric, creating a rich tapestry of patterns. Jamdhani fabric is prized for its sheer texture, intricate designs, and unparalleled craftsmanship, making it a symbol of luxury and elegance.

The production process involves harvesting flax fibers, spinning them into yarn, and weaving them into fabric. Linen fabric is characterized by its cool and crisp texture, making it perfect for warm climates and casual yet sophisticated attire. With its natural luster and ability to become softer with each wash, linen fabric exudes effortless style and comfort.
